Things to do in Cape Town

Cape Town. The Mother City. With it's stunning scenery, cultural heritage and vibey atmosphere, Cape Town has become a "must visit" on many travelers itineraries. With Table Mountain and the ocean there is plenty to do in and around the city. Enjoy the nightlife of Long Street, visit the Waterfront, Kirstenbosch Gardens or laze on a stunning beach. For those looking for a little more......

  • Climb Table Mountain - there are many paths leading to the summit and one could do a whole day excursion or take the quick route up "Platteklip Gorge". This is the most popular and takes approx 2 hours (liesure pace). Alternatively you could take the cableway (R180 return). The views are definitly worth it.
  • Cape Peninsula - fantstic scenery, beaches and mountains. This is the most popular day trip and can be done either on one's own (hire a vehicle) or on the Cape Peninsula Tour. Swimming, biking, and hiking for the more active or just enjoy the views. Encounter penguins, whales and the famous Cape baboons.
  • Winelands Tour - the famous Cape wine region makes for a great day out. Once again this can be done in a hired vehicle or though a Wine Tour is recommended. (everyone can enjoy the tasting). Visit various wine farms and taste their finest vintages. Paarl, Franschoek and Stellenbosch are the main areas and the surrounding hills and valleys have loads of farms. The scenery is spectacular.
  • Robben Island and Townships - Robben Isalnd has a rich political history and the prison housed some of South Africa's most famous freedom fighters, including Nelson Mandela. The tour takes approx. 3,5 hours, including the ferry ride and costs R180. Booking is essential, however one can combine the Robben Island visit with a Township tourfor full day of cultural input.
  • Shark Cage Diving - for the more adventurous. Since Great White Sharks became a protected species, there is a dramatic increase in people wanting to get up close and personal with these amazing predators. The Cape offers an excellent opportunity to view Great White Sharks and cage diving has become a must do for the adrenalin seekers.
  • Whales - The Cape has some of the best shore based whale watching on offer and between June and November these giants can be regularly seen all along the coastline. Walker Bay in Hermanus has become a popular viewing area with the whales coming really close to the beach and cliffs. Once again this can be done on ones's own or with the popular Whale Tour.
